This Saturday, July 18 at 10 a.m., join your TNS Monona friends for a tour of Troy Gardens in northeast Madison. Community GroundWorks at Troy Gardens runs the tour, and your suggested donation of $4 will help support their work. We’ll get to see their community gardens, kid’s garden and natural areas.

Kid Friendly! Cheap! Fun!

Where?

On the north side of Madison (500 block of Troy Drive).

What will you see there?

Community Gardens: The community gardens are at the heart of Troy Gardens. With over 200 garden plots, the gardens provide an opportunity for individuals and households to get involved.

Urban Farm: Established in 2001 as Madison’s first urban farm, Troy Community Farm occupies 5 acres of the Troy site. The core of the farm is the CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) through which farm members receive fresh, locally grown, organic produce each week for 20 weeks, beginning in June and ending in late October.

Natural areas: Much of the Troy Gardens site is being restored to natural habitat. On 3.5 acres, we have planted a native prairie. A small maple woodland on the west edge of the site has been cleared of invasive, weedy species, and its edges planted with native trees, shrubs, and wildflowers.

In addition to those things that you see, Community Groundwork’s at Troy Gardens has a K-8 garden program and a youth farming project. Also, adjacent to the site (but not part of the tour) is Troy Gardens Cohousing.

How much?

$4 per person donation.

How to get there?

Carpool groups will be formed. If you are interested in attending, send an email to info@tnsmonona.org. Let us know if you would like to carpool from Monona. (If you are going to Troy Gardens on your own, park on the street and meet at the brown tent next to the kids garden at 10 a.m.)
