Dr. Makhijani’s recently published research, Carbon Free and Nuclear Free: A Road Map for US Energy Policy (RDR Books and IEER Press, 2007), is a groundbreaking analysis of how the U.S. economy could transition to renewable energy sources without use of fossil fuels or nuclear power. His research shows that we can achieve huge reductions in our carbon emissions, improve public health and the environment, and create a sustainable and secure energy future.
Physicians for Social Responsibility of Wisconsin has organized a public lectures by Dr. Makhijani in Madison on Thursday, October 2, at 7:30 pm at the State Historical Society Auditorium in Madison (816 State Street). A reception precedes this event at 6:30 pm in the Auditorium Lobby.
Dr. Makhijani holds a Ph.D. in engineering (specialization: nuclear fusion) from the University of California at Berkeley. Over the past twenty years, he has produced many studies and articles on the nuclear fuel cycle–including weapons production, testing, and nuclear waste. In 1971, he was the principal author of the first study ever done on energy conservation potential in the U.S. economy. Dr. Makhijani has appeared widely as a resource on energy policy over the past 37 years, testifying before Congress, and appearing on ABC World News Tonight, the CBS Evening News, CBS 60 Minutes, NPR, CNN, and the BBC.
