The third of six Energ!ze Monona forums, this one will look at what is being done and what can be done to increase the energy efficiency of existing buildings, and to make new development and housing more efficient from the start. What directions look most promising for the future? What kinds of zoning or building codes would promote building more energy-efficient buildings and homes?

Energ!ze Monona forums help you learn about energy, and then help you improve Monona by discussing how the city can work towards becoming more energy independent. Energ!ze Monona is a series of six free City of Monona forums created around the “25×25 Plan,” a blueprint for generating 25 percent of the energy the city uses from renewable resources by 2025. This plan came from Monona’s participation in the state Office of Energy Independence’s Energy Independent Communities program. (A short video overview is here: http://blip.tv/city-of-monona-videos/25×25-presentation-5073649.)

“Increasing people’s awareness of the potential to change our energy consumption methods and habits is important,” says Mayor Bob Miller. “Our citizens can help Monona by learning about energy, looking at how what they learn applies to Monona’s challenges and opportunities, and then considering the key actions for moving our city toward more energy independence. The idea-generation is important and helpful in formulating Monona’s energy future.”

The first five Energ!ze Monona forums are geared for adults. The final event  on February 18 is at the Monona Library from 1:00 to 3:00, and is a  family-friendly mix of art creation and learning about energy.
