Take the Green Monona Tour on Sunday, June 14, to see environmentally-friendly steps that have been taken in Monona. From 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., you can visit nine homes, four businesses, a church, and a city property to see what is being done to lessen the human impact on the environment, save money, and nurture the Monona community. Renewable energy, rain gardens, pavers, lighting technologies, an energy audit in action, and much more – see them up close and personal with those who have experience in how they work. Exhibits and representatives from organizations and companies helping people take green steps will also be on hand. The City of Monona Sustainability Committee is organizing the free tour.
Visitors may make one stop on the tour, or many, and may take the tour self-guided, or via the two Wal-Mart sponsored bus loops that begin and end at Ahuska Park – the first loop leaves at 9:20 a.m. and returns at 11:00 to begin a second loop.
The tour continues, rain or shine. A handout with a complete tour description and map will be available at Ahuska Park on the day of the tour. The handout is available now at Monona City Hall, the Monona Public Library, Monona Community Center, and Monona Senior Center – all just west of the intersection of Schluter Road and Nichols Road. The tour description and map can also be found on the city’s website: www.mymonona.com.
