Location: Monona Public Library

Got Trees? On January 12, 2010 learn how to create and support a healthy urban forest by attending “Urban Forests: 101″ with presenters from Community GroundWorks at Troy Gardens.

Monona’s thousands of trees contribute to a healthier and greener community for all. Unfortunately, the invasive Emerald Ash Borer (EAB) threatens our valuable urban forest. At this presentation, one of a continuing series of Urban Forestry Forums throughout the Madison area, City of Madison Forester Marla Eddy will introduce issues of urban forestry and citizen advocacy. Entomology experts will explain current threats such as Emerald Ash Borer, Gypsy Moth, and emerging invasive species.

Eddy and Troy Gardens staff will also share a new plan to integrate edible fruit and nut trees into urban forests in Madison. Tree species diversity is essential for a healthy urban forest and will also be an important consideration when offsetting expected losses from EAB. Planting fruit and nut trees could also provide local food sources.
